Ralph Waldo Emerson

Love is doing something big in your life,
and don't you know it?!

Come spend time with that Love.
Commune with other women, soul friends.
Connect with the heart of your life.

Join us for a women's weekend of soul friendship
at the Anam Cara Retreat!

March 25-26, 2011
Cedar Falls,

Who is this retreat for?

Anam Cara Community is a circle of women journeying together for a year of soul friendship, story midwifery, and spiritual deepening. This retreat is one offering in their year-long connection

Past participants of the Spirations Story Midwife Training Program will delight in re-connection with their "Spirations sisters" and with the wider community.

New soul friends in our midst who long for a weekend immersed in soul and beauty, and want a taste of the Anam Cara Community experience.

Check out our Is This You? page.
If you resonate with that, chances are good you'll love this retreat weekend.

Ah, Lovely One,
   This is your time.

This retreat is a gift for you! A springtime soul refresher. A time to tend, prepare and bow to the soil where your heart is growing ready to sow seeds.

Lightly finger the textures, smell the rich earthiness, get that lush goodness under your fingernails.

Be present to the Sacred Presence within and around you.

Let it be for rest. Let it be for play. Let it be for dancing, learning, breathing deeply. Let it be for Love.

And how will we do this, exactly?

A great question! Let me, Trish, tell you what I know:

  Keep the channel open....

I am most gifted at (and really, really love) creating a space for Good Things to transpire.  Over the many years I've been leading retreats and events, I've found my greatest preparation is to stay awake to what is showing up. Even for multi-day gatherings and events like this, my primary work is to pay attention and notice.

Dancer Martha Graham would say this is the practice of "keeping the channel open."

Yes, as the months and weeks and days move toward retreat time, there are details of making an event an event to tend. Even more than that, though, I'm paying attention to the conversations I'm having with those coming to the retreat and with those I encounter from place to place and time to time.

The last week or so before a retreat or event, the pieces come together into a shape and form which I can place into the lovingly-held space (the structure) of our time together.

This means, of course, that I can't tell you exactly what we're doing from sun up to sun down.

I can tell you that retreats are designed to accommodate many different, multi-sensory ways of engaging and participating, knowing we (and our uniquely beautiful bodies and brains!) all come with our own primary and preferred ways of learning, integrating, connecting, caring for ourselves, and being present.  Keeping this in mind, nearly every retreat contains elements of this color and stripe:

    • Music and Singing: Trish solo and the whole group together
    • Movement
    • Stillness
    • Writing/Journaling
    • Creative expression
    • Drumming and sound healing
    • Silence
    • Laughter
    • Sharing in small groups and with partners
    • Labyrinth walking
    • Meditation
    • Intuitive listening
    • Spiritual direction
    • A somewhat legendary snack table
We'd love for you to join us in the adventure!

If you have specific questions or needs, please contact us and we'll gladly offer what guidance we can.

Guided by Trish Bruxvoort Colligan

Trish has been told that her family name means "bridge builder". It's a name she wears well.
Her music and leadership are celebrated in diverse communities, from New Thought to conservative Christian, from Wiccan to Buddhist, from Jewish to women’s sacred circles to the folksy-artsy crowd. (Sometimes all in the same room!) While this makes it a little hard to pin her into a particular genre, she relishes the fact that her work has created around her such a wonderfully assorted community.

Spend time with Trish and you will find in her a wise, compassionate soul. A Reiki Master well-acquainted with the holistic arts of yoga, movement, sound and healing, Trish offers herself to the healing of the world. She lives out this calling in the hills of Iowa with her dearest companions: husband Richard and their homeschooled 9-year-old son Sam; Abby the midwife dog; and three very odd cats.

In summer 2010, Trish was named a "Next-Generation Pioneer" as part of The Sacred Awakening Series presented by The Shift Network.
