Hey, it's a special advance viewing page just for 2011 Anam Caras!

You, oh Anam Cara, are getting in on the goods before this page hits the streets.
This is the sweet spot for you to sign up for small groups (Anam Cara Circles) and 1:1 sessions with me.

But first...
Most of this preamble has been sufficiently covered on the forum, as well as on community calls, small group calls and 1:1 conversations. But to be sure, let's do a brief recap:

By now, you might find it yawn-worthy to hear me say it again, but I love, love, love working with women who are committed to their own soul work and spiritual practices. Obviously, this takes different forms for different people, and everyone is at their own "just right" place, which means my work with women and groups is deliciously fresh all the time, taking on unique per-encounter flavors. But the common theme is my joy in following the threads of your stories with you through seasons of living. This takes a certain kind of investment on both our parts. My heart continues to be drawn to walking alongside women who are professionally trained and/or are serving as Story Midwives, spiritual directors, or other soul work professionals.

Additionally, in February, I'll be taking a private songwriting residency/retreat in preparation for my new CD, Thresholds, followed by polishing off the writing in spring and summer, followed by the recording, followed by some sort of "cross country, grassroots, living room" tour that's starting to come onto the page.

Changes, changes
Holding all of the above in mind, I'm shifting
the services I offer, and the way I offer them. Because this also means I'll be working with fewer clients, I wanted my "current women" have first access to groups and my 1:1 session slots. Thus, this page.

Small groups will kick off in March
(though I don't expect there to be too many -- if any -- slots left by then). 1:1 sessions will begin at the end of January.

It's been a joy to journey with you this year!
I look forward to the ways our threads will continue bringing us together -- as part of Anam Cara Community and beyond. Eager to see you soon!

Much love,
Trish

P.S. You'll find links to all of this below, but here's a little guide to the pages you're most likely interested in:

P.P.S. You'll have exclusive access to these currently hidden pages for just a few days. We'll make it available to the whole, wide world the first week of January.  :-)

Following the threads of our stories.

Anam Cara Circles for Women
Soul Friends for your story-rich life.

If you're here because you're ready to sign-up for an Anam Cara Circle, then by all means, get to it.
If you're interested in the nitty gritty, universal underpinnings of why an Anam Cara Circle might be just right for you, keep reading.

Scientists and cosmologists tell us that the universe is expanding:
in all directions, in all times and places, through all beings.

If I don't slow down and think a moment about the significance of this, I'll run right by it every time. It's almost too big to take in. So let's look again: the universe is expanding… every which way… through everybody… all the time.

Hello, Raisin Dearest.
Cosmologist Brian Swimme puts it this way:

Imagine that you are a raisin in the bread dough of the fabric of the universe. As it rises, the dough expands outward from your little raisin self in every direction. Not only outwardly around you, but around every other raisin-being in the dough.

Whoa.

If you think that's a Great Big Something to consider, try this one on for size:
At the heart of the equation explained to us by folks in the know (from the realms of science, mathematics, spirituality and religion alike) is the little miracle that by virtue of being alive, we are co-creating the universe.

Holy space-time continuum, Batman.

If I'm willing to consider that possibility, then you and I are not just innocent bystanders; instead, who I am, who you are, makes a creative difference in the fabric of the universe. How far-reaching is this? (To borrow from Martin Luther and my (actually quite enjoyable) Lutheran confirmation days: What does this mean for me?)

My early cosmological excursions into the whole universe-story-unfolds-through-the-human-story concept rocked my world in subtle and noteworthy ways that I'm still uncovering years later. Imagine this possibility, will you? God, holiness, the fabric of the stuff that holds us together is being born through your life, my life. Your stories, my stories.

If ever I needed a swift kick in the aspiration to show up and pay attention, to be authentic, or get to the heart of the matter, this was a worthy one. At the same time, if ever there was an excuse to simplify some things, I had it.

Follow your Thread, Baby.

Most everything I'm about these days -- be it music, engaging in spiritual direction with groups or individuals, tending my own soul, or being a wife and partner to Richard and homeschooling mom to ten year-old Sam -- can be distilled down to, and flows through, this, the simplest and completely natural, yet most potent, radical, evolutionary practice I've encountered:

Following the Thread.

It's so elementary children can do it. (And I promise you many of them they are!) But it's multi-layered and dimensional enough to keep a person passionately engaged for a lifetime. (We're creating the universe, remember.) Twists and turns are an inherent part of the process.

Pay Attention. Be Awake.
Following the thread means being awake to the impulse of life that comes uniquely through you.

You have a story thread running through the many layers of your life. Your story intersects ten-thousand seen and unseen points in the landscapes of your soul, and in the soul landscapes of others. Your thread is woven in your relationships, your innermost longings, your dreams, your callings, the past and the future. It shows up in the ways you listen, and gets played out in that inner cast of motley mates you hear bustling around inside yourself.

If we ruminate a bit on the postulation that the universe continues to expand, and that it does so through each one of our precious Raisin Selves in every moment, then there's a lot of birthing going on. If who we are makes a difference, then it stands to reason that how we are does, too.

"If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you.
If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you."

-Jesus of Nazareth, the Gospel of Thomas

Bring forth what's in you,
and don't go it alone.

Yes, your story is yours and only you can bring it forth, but you were never meant to go it alone.

I've got a lot of practice tending my stories and following my threads. Like I said, it's really What I Do in life. But I'm not hanging out in a cave somewhere trying to do it on my own. Let me be bold and say that I don't think it's possible to authentically tend our stories 100% solo. We need faithful companions.

Let me introduce you to one of my favorite phrases ever: anam cara. That's ancient Celtic for soul friend.

I created Anam Cara Community because I'm passionate about women's sacred stories. Trying to go it alone can be lonely, terrifying, disastrous, even.
You are birthing an incredibly rich and glorious life! You and your stories deserve a sacred circle of anam caras, soul friends. If you've stuck with me this far, I'm guessing some part of you knows this, craves this.

"Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?"
-Mary Oliver, The Summer Day from New and Selected Poems

Your anam caras are calling.

An Anam Cara Circle is a lovely gift to you and your one wild, precious life.

Here's how it works:

You and a few other women who are Really Ready to bring forth what's within them will meet with me (Trish) once a month by phone. You'll also be invited to a private, password-protected forum and a private Facebook group just for Anam Caras!

Ready to dive in? Register here!

You and your Anam Caras will learn to:

  • See your life as a sacred, unfolding strand in the Universal Story.
  • Recognize your life as an expression of one sacred story.
  • Honor the ways all our stories are intricately connected.
  • Greet and engage even your most challenging and difficult stories with grace and compassion. (Really!)
  • Midwife the sacred stories of others and help to "listen them into their stories".

Anam Caras become like Story Midwives helping us bring forth what's ripe and ready in us.

What if you're brand new to this?
You and your beginner's mind are very welcome here!
Bring your beautiful self and a willing heart and you've already got most of what you need. I'll guide our process of contemplative sharing and listening (which springs from the heart of an ancient practice called group spiritual direction).

If you're an Anam Cara that has completed Story Midwife training with me, you have the option of taking part in an Anam Cara Circle for Story Midwives. These calls will be a little longer (two hours each), will have fewer participants, and will integrate professional and peer support to nourish your continued learning and formation.

What's included:

  • Monthly calls with Trish and your Anam Cara Circle
  • Weekly Anam Cara "Wednesday Wave" newsletter
  • Private, password-protected forum for Anam Caras only
  • Private Anam Cara-only Facebook group
  • Special goodies from Trish (A few little extras sprinkled here and there for Anam Caras only!)

One last thing...

You've Got Two Pollys...

I'm working on a new CD (yay!) and an idea for a new song has been rolling around my creative hopper. Here's the basic idea:
Let's say you've got a parrot on one shoulder squawking out in real time your entire inner deliberations on what you tell yourself (and others) about who you are and what you're about. And on the other, one who croons a melody heard from no other shoulder on the planet, a song which arises from the ancient waters deep below the surface where your soul's imagination resides.

Which Polly gets your cracker?

Okay, so maybe it's a no-brainer. On the surface. But ponder a moment. Which Polly are you feeding? Which Polly captures and holds your attention? Which do you tend to engage (perhaps by habit)?  Which do you believe more of the time?

We've all got our Pollys. The goal is not to eliminate one or the other (in fact, both Pollys have useful gifts to offer and can be wildly entertaining), but to become more skilled at compassionately noticing their voices and discerning their place in your story.

For the love of the universe ever-unfolding through you right now, I hope you have practices and midwives in your life who are helping you notice and live into the Polly voice that sings from your shoulder the song that only you can hear, the melody that springs from the heart of your true home. As you do this, however you are called to do this in ways that are uniquely and beautifully your own, I bow in thanks to you, dear one.  Thank you!

If you want compassionate support and encouragement in birthing your stories,

now may be the blessedly ripe time to explore a place in one of our Anam Cara Circles, or to arrange for a series of private sessions with me.
